Boilerhouse King
The largest rooms, where the fruit coppers used to sit, with ceilings high enough that the bedhead looks small against them.
Wyndcliff Point
This site is about a hotel with gaming tables on the premises, and in Australia you must be 18 or over to enter that room. Please confirm your age.
Then this site isn't for you just yet.
Please close this tab. We'll be here in a few years, and so will the harbour.
Converted jam factory, on the water
The brick and the steel trusses are original, and the salt gets into everything, which comes with the address. Fishing boats tie up across the lane and start their engines early. The windows on the harbour side open, and we'd suggest trying one.
Inside the building, two floors up from where you check in, Wyndcliff Point has a small casino. Breakfast, the bar and the whisky snug are all on the ground floor, under the old hoist beam.
Stay
Forty-eight rooms over three floors. No two match exactly; the old building didn't leave much choice.
The largest rooms, where the fruit coppers used to sit, with ceilings high enough that the bedhead looks small against them.
Top floor, under a sloping ceiling, with one dormer window that frames Mount Wellington on a clear morning and shows only cloud on a wet one.
Two beds, lane side, close enough to the water that you'll hear the first boat leave at quarter past five.
Eat & drink
Dinner six nights a week in the old loading bay. The menu is short and leans on whatever came off the boats that afternoon, cooked over coals. Book ahead on Fridays.
A long copper bar with twelve stools and a good sherry list, open from four. Snacks are served until late, and the oysters are shucked in front of you.
Coffee, pastries and breakfast from half past six, which suits the fishermen and doesn't spoil anyone else's morning. You can take a cup away from the sill.
A snug behind Pectin with eight chairs and Tasmanian whisky on the shelf. There's no music, so people bring a book, and we're glad when they do.
Upstairs
18+
Wyndcliff Point Casino is the hotel's own casino, on the second floor of the same building, two flights directly above the lobby. Guests reach the casino by the steel stair beside reception, or by the lift in the corner if they'd rather not climb, and nobody has to go outside.
The casino room is compact: a few tables, a bar along the bare brick and roof trusses low enough that you can read the rivets. It opens in the evenings and closes when the floor empties, so there's no set closing time. We ask for tidy clothes and closed shoes.
You must be 18 or over to enter, and we check photo ID at the door on every visit, hotel guests included, even if you showed it the night before. Staff set limits on the floor and they vary by table, so ask before you sit down. To self-exclude, come to reception and we'll arrange it with you in person.
The casino is a land-based floor inside the hotel. This website offers no online casino games and takes no bets, deposits or payments.
